Young Carers' Breaks

Our young carers' breaks are designed to take our young people away from their day-to-day lives and give them time to be young and time to be free.  At home they are often tied to a strict timetable of caring, cooking and cleaning on top of their everyday school work and have little free time.  Our Outdoor Centre in Worth Matravers, Dorset offers young carers plenty of time to enjoy themselves and make new friends - all the time and space they need.  Just like the youngsters from Barnardos London in 2017...

“I’ve had a great time.  We were around supportive people, made new friends and got to try lots of new things.  It’s just a shame the weather wasn’t great!”  A young carer visiting at Easter 2017

Outdoor activities enable them to interact with young people in the same position as them and to create and develop friendships with their peers.  It is the most valuable gift that we can give.  The centre is surrounded by beautiful countryside and cliff walks on the Jurassic Coast.

What do our young carers say about a MyTIME Break?

We work with Brenscombe Outdoor Centre to give our young carers the chance to try new activities if they want to - archery, rifle shooting, high ropes, raft-building...

“MyTIME have been incredibly generous enabling funding this whole weekend and putting on such a range of activities and taster sessions so we could help them develop their programme.  It’s been a great opportunity for us and we are really looking forward to continuing to work with them in the future” Young Carers Co-ordinator Marie Shotbolt said:

We fundraise all year around to provide our services - for which we receive no direct government funding.  A Young Carer's break costs about £300 each and we like to bring at least 10 at a time to stay.
