MYTime Young Carers’ Charity joins
London Marathon 2.6 Challenge and
urges others to participate to raise funds
MYTime Young Carers’ Charity has joined ‘the 2.6 Challenge’ and is urging members of the
public is sign up to take part and raise funds for the Dorset based charity.
The Virgin London Marathon is always a huge event in the charity fundraising calendar,
raising an incredible £66.4 million for good causes in 2019 and more than £1 billion raised
since the first race in 1981. The 40th race has now been postponed to 4th October 2020.
Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on charity income, with the London Marathon being
just one of many fundraising events that have been postponed or cancelled, with a
fundraising loss of some £4 billion across the charity sector.
MYTime Executive Director Krista Cartlidge advised, “In response, the organisers of the
biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have come together to create a
new campaign to raise vital funds to save the UK’s charities.
As a result The 2.6 Challenge is launching on 26th April – what should have been the date of the 40th
edition of the London Marathon. The public are being asked to dream up an activity
based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise for their chosen charity."
“We would love to have mass participation for the MYTime Young Carers’ 2.6 Challenge.
Involvement could include absolutely anything such as running 2.6 km, walking 26 laps of
your garden, flipping a pancake 26 times or even doing 26 back flips!"
“Early subscribers to our 2.6 Challenge include Glenmoor and Winton Academy who will be
launching an A – Z daily fitness activity consisting of 26 activities each day; 26 Ab rolls, 26
Burpees, 26 Curtesy lunges and so forth.
"E Motion Fitness Hub in Poole will be hosting a series of online exercise classes – ZUU,
circuits and yoga, with participants donating to the MYTime 2.6 Challenge.”
Krista continued, “We would be so happy to have your support in the 2.6 Challenge.
Absolutely every pound raised makes a positive difference to our charity. Your fundraising
will mean that MYTime will be able to deliver our amazing ‘MYTime @ Home’ programme,
which has replaced all of the face to face activities we normally run to give young carers a bit
of a break from their caring responsibilities. It will also mean we can reassure our young
carers that as soon as this is over we will organise some great activities for them, as a way of
saying thank you for their hard work in caring for their families during the covid-19
“We would love to hear from individuals, businesses, schools & organisations...anyone can
get involved. Please do get in touch!”
