It was great to be part of Swanage Co-op Community Fund Celebration day! We had an opportunity to meet some of the members who had chosen MyTIME as a local charity to receive their support and explain to them what their funds will help us to do for our young carers.
Swanage store manager Simon explains how the local Community fund works, "every time members shop at Co-op, 1% of what they spend on selected products and services goes to the local community fund. The money raised by all the members in the Swanage community, together with money from shopping bag sales, helps to fund projects in the area. Members can choose which cause they want their own 1% to go to and new causes are chosen every 12 months.
Since September 2016, Co-op members have raised a total of more than £20 million across the UK. It was great to have Steve and Joanne here today - our members now understand mucm more about the work that MyTIME does - not far away from us in the Purbecks."
£8,689.27 goes along way in delivering young carers' breaks at the Outdoor Centre in Worth Matravers. £3,000 funds an amazing few days of activities and relaxation in the Dorset countryside for 12 young carers and their support workers. £1,000 makes a play day very special for more than 20 young people. MyTIME's Steve Mills explains the importance of local community support, "any funding is warmly received by a small local charity like our's, yet somehow when it's raised by the those that live nearby it means even more. It shows that they are taking our cause to their hearts and appreciate the efforts we are making to raise the profile of the area, the charity and the plight of young carers. We cannot thank the members of the Swanage Co-op enough for their support and look forward to working with Simon and the team in the future."
